Pedunculated Hepatocellular Adenoma in a Woman on Long-Term Oral Contraceptives: A Rare and Atypical Presentation

Abstract

A unique benign liver tumor was discovered in a 37-year-old woman who had used oral contraceptives for an extended period. She experienced ongoing pain and bloating in her right abdomen. Imaging studies showed a sizable liver mass that appeared cancerous. After surgical removal, tissue examination confirmed it was an inflammatory non-cancerous tumor. This case underscores the necessity of early detection and prompt surgical intervention to avert complications, particularly in those with long-term estrogen exposure. It also stresses the importance of clinical vigilance to prevent misdiagnosis in similar situations.
