T1 weighted thin section images: TE 1800/12, 1 mm slice thickness, FOV 36 cm, Matrix 384 x 280, no contrast medium injected.
Images reveal volume loss and fatty replacement of the gluteus maximus on both sides with medial retraction of its tendon along with the tensor fascia lata. A T1 hypointense cord like structure is also seen within the left gluteus maximus suggestive of an intramuscular band.

T2 weighted axial images: TR/TE 1500/127, 1 mm slice thickness, FOV 36 cm, Matrix 320 x 256, no contrast medium injected.
Images reveal volume loss and fatty replacement of the gluteus maximus on both sides with medial retraction of its tendon along with the tensor fascia lata. A T1 hypointense cord like structure is also seen within the left gluteus maximus suggestive of an intramuscular band. Subtle hyperintense signal is noted within the muscle adjacent to the band and may represent associated inflammatory change.

T2 weighted sagittal images reveal atrophy of the gluteus maximus in comparison with other muscles around the hip joint.
